The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is a major recreational resort (owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company), and is home to two theme parks, three hotels, and a shopping and entertainment area. Its properties include:

  • Disneyland Park: the "mother park" filled with lands of adventure, fantasy, and imagination.
  • Disney's California Adventure Park: a theme park that celebrates the history, diversity, and culture of the Golden State.
  • Disneyland Hotel: The original Disney hotel, built in the late 50's when the resort first opened and recently rennovated.
  • Disney's Grand Californian Resort & Spa: a hotel based on the California arts and crafts movement of the early 1900's.
  • Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel: a hotel themed after the section of Disney's California Adventure it overlooks.
  • Downtown Disney District: an outdoor shopping and entertainment district.

Disneyland Park opened on July 18, 1955 after a International Press Preview on July 17th. Much of the surrounding area was not owned by The Walt Disney Company. In the late-1990s, expansion plans were made, and while the original concept was scaled back, the expanded complex was inaugurated as the Disneyland Resort in early 2001, with the opening of Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure.

The Walt Disney Company purchased some land around the park which had been occupied by commercial properties and built part of Downtown Disney and a brand new parking structure on the new land. The Mickey and Friends parking structure is the largest parking structure in the Western Hemisphere. Disney's California Adventure, part of Downtown Disney, and one new hotel was built on Disneyland's original parking lot and newly purchased land.

In 2005, Disneyland Park celebrated it's 50th Anniversary in an 18-month celebration, which began May 5, 2005 and ended September 2006, known as The Happiest Celebration on Earth. Currently, the Disneyland Resort is celebrating The Year of a Million Dreams, including daily prizes given way from the Disney Dream Team for the annual Disney Dreams Giveaway.

The Disneyland Resort is currently promoting "What Will You Celebrate?", which features the Celebration Vacation and where guests may earn a free ticket to either park for free on their birthday.

The Disneyland Resort is headed by president Ed Grier, formerly of the Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan.
